These collections include 25,000 museum objects, more than 100,000 printed books; 110,000 photographs; 3,400 sound recordings; 9 million feet of moving picture film; over 1,100 manuscript collections; 3,400 maps; 20,000 prints; 16,000 pieces of ephemera; 15,000 architectural drawings; and several smaller, miscellaneous categories of historical holdings.
The John Brown House is a National Historic Landmark that was built in 1788 and includes exhibits and objects reflecting Rhode Island’s role in the Revolution and participation in slavery and the slave trade. The John Brown House museum is open on Fridays and Saturdays December through March, and open Tuesday through Saturday from April to November.
The Museum of Work & Culture presents the compelling story of immigrants who came to find a better life in the mill towns along the Blackstone River. Visitors recreate this journey, beginning in a Quebecois farmhouse before making their way to the workday world of Woonsocket at the turn of the century. Guests explore the lives of immigrants at home, work, and school through nine immersive exhibits. The Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday year round.
